Fuel Consumption Test

Fuel Consumption Test

Ship Fuel Consumption Test is a measurement of the level of fuel consumption used by a ship during operation. Calculating fuel consumption and keeping records on board is one of the most important tasks that the Chief Engineer is responsible for. Fuel is an expensive commodity, as we all know. Knowing fuel consumption is critical to minimizing costs and increasing efficiency. Calculating a vessel's fuel consumption, especially on longer voyages, becomes more critical. With this data, ships can form better strategies to achieve maximum fuel efficiency.

Under ship charter conditions fuel oil is usually provided by the ship charterer and the Chief Engineer must report to them every day with a report on fuel oil consumption, remaining on board (ROB) and requirements for the next voyage. Fuel usage or consumption is reported at each arrival and departure of the ship or at:

  • At End of Sea Passage (Arrived at destination area/end of journey)
  • At Commencement of Sea Passage (when starting the journey)
  • Prior and after bunkering/de-bunkering
  • When every fuel change operation is completed (When the operation activity is complete)
