Pre-loading Condition Surveys
The Pre-loading survey serves to evaluate and establish the condition of the cargo before loading, ensuring that all aspects are suitable for ocean carriage. The primary objective is to identify any damage promptly, allowing for immediate rectification or replacement. Documentation during this phase is crucial to confirm that the terminal receives all cargo in good order. Additionally, it helps isolate potential instances of damage, aiding in the processing of claims at a later stage.
The survey aims to recommend cargo exceptions or conditions as remarks in the mate's receipt, to be presented by the shipper or shipping agent. Upon the vessel's arrival at the Port of Loading, the ORCA Surveyor contacts the local agent and meets with the Master to discuss loading arrangements. The Surveyor assesses the quantity to be loaded, examines the surface condition and checks for mechanical damage, documenting any damaged cargo. Other responsibilities include:
- check condition of cargo
- checking the condition of packing and packaging
- quantity tally
- weigh of random checking
- monitoring to the loading operation into transportation (containers, vessel)
- monitoring to lashing
- securing of cargo
